Our story

How we started

Founded by Matt Leigh in 2020, Port City Heavy Diesel Maintenance began with just one dedicated diesel fitter and a single field service vehicle, working seven days a week to provide reliable breakdown support, repairs and maintenance across a diverse range of machinery and industries.

Built on hard work, determination and a commitment to quality workmanship, the business has grown from its humble beginnings into a trusted provider of specialised diesel maintenance and field service solutions throughout Central Queensland.

How we have grown

From servicing small civil and quarrying contracts to becoming a trusted, go-to contractor for major OEMs and some of Australia's largest civil and mining operators, Port City Heavy Diesel Maintenance has built its name on performance, reliability and a reputation that speaks for itself.

What started with one fitter and one field service vehicle has grown into a team of 14 highly skilled technicians, trusted to support some of the industry's biggest names.

Our growth hasn't been driven by promises. It's been earned through results. Through consistent workmanship, rapid response times and the ability to deliver skilled labour when it matters most, we've forged long-standing partnerships and established ourselves as a contractor our clients can rely on.

From the smallest breakdown to supporting major industry operations, our commitment remains the same: deliver exceptional service, back our people and earn our reputation on every job.

Central Queensland

Where we work

Established in 2020 with just one field service ute in Gladstone, Central Queensland, Port City Heavy Diesel Maintenance (PCHDM) has grown into a trusted and expanding business, now operating across Gladstone and Rockhampton with a fleet of 14 fully equipped field service vehicles and a team of highly skilled technicians.

Each technician has been personally hand-picked for their experience, workmanship and commitment to delivering quality service.

Our operations now extend from the Bowen Basin across Banana Shire and Central Queensland, down to Chinchilla, providing reliable maintenance, breakdown and field service support across the mining, civil and industrial sectors.

While our business has grown significantly, our core values have remained the same. We take pride in the strong customer relationships we have built, continuing to support many of the same valued clients who have trusted us since our establishment in 2020.

Built on quality workmanship, reliability and long-standing customer relationships, PCHDM continues to grow without losing the personalised service that started it all.

Our people

Matt Leigh, founder

From the foundations laid during my apprenticeship, I have carried forward the values of precision, quality workmanship and pride in every job, instilling these same standards into every member of our team.

Whether it's a minor repair or a complete machine rebuild, our philosophy remains the same: OEM standards are our benchmark, not our ceiling.

We don't simply aim to meet industry expectations; we strive to exceed them, delivering workmanship, reliability and attention to detail that set Port City Heavy Diesel Maintenance apart.

Our people

Tiaree Wimbus, co-founder

Finance, leadership and the people behind Port City.

As one of the original founders of Port City Heavy Diesel Maintenance, Tiaree has been a driving force behind the company's growth, leadership and culture since its establishment in 2020.

Overseeing the financial, administrative and organisational foundations of the business, Tiaree plays a critical leadership role in managing accounts, payroll, procurement, workforce coordination and strategic planning. Her ability to balance the demands of a growing operation with the needs of its people has been instrumental in shaping Port City Heavy Diesel into the company it is today.

“As our employees grow through the different stages of life, our company must grow with them.”

People and families

But perhaps Tiaree's greatest contribution is the leadership philosophy she has built from personal experience.

As a mother who has raised a family alongside a partner working long hours in the heavy diesel industry, Tiaree understands firsthand the sacrifices made by the families behind the workforce. She knows the impact that demanding rosters, extended hours and time away from home can have, not only on employees but also on the partners and children supporting them.

That understanding has become a benchmark for how Port City Heavy Diesel leads and supports its people.

From coordinating rosters that accommodate family commitments wherever operationally possible to maintaining genuine communication and checking in on the wellbeing of employees and their families, Tiaree has established a leadership approach where people are valued as individuals, not simply numbers on a roster.

Growing together

Whether it's supporting a young apprentice beginning their career, a fitter starting a family, or an experienced tradesperson balancing work and personal commitments, Tiaree is committed to creating an environment where employees can build successful careers without losing sight of what matters most outside of work.

This people-first leadership extends equally to customers, ensuring that as Port City Heavy Diesel expands, the personal relationships, accountability and genuine care that established its reputation remain at the forefront of every interaction.

Together, Matt and Tiaree have built more than a successful heavy diesel business. They have established a business where high standards of workmanship and strong family values go hand in hand.

Because at Port City Heavy Diesel, we don't just invest in the people who work for us. We invest in the people and families who grow alongside us.
